Welcome to a surfer’s paradise with crystal clear blue waters, pristine white sand beaches, tide pools, and wavering palm trees. You will find yourself surfing solo sessions in glassy conditions with perfect waves, no crowds, no hassles and perfectly warm water.
Part of the Hinako islands, right in front of the surf break in Northern Sumatra, our Surf Camp in Asu is a “zero crowd” epic 200m world class left hand point break with waves ranging from 3-12 feet in height. There are 3 distinct barrel sections that will present challenges to every level of surfer. Blessed with waves all year round, the break is situated on the Northern tip of a small palm tree fringed island. Asu is offshore with South, South-East and South-West winds. During the months of April through October we have the most consistent and largest surf of the year. Another easily accessible surf break by boat charter is the famous “no crowd” Bawa, offshore with West, North West and North winds. Other favorable no crowd surf breaks and secret surf spots are nearby the camp and accessible by boat charter within 15-75 minutes.
The surf camp is equipped with Hot water and Wi-Fi and will take care of your every need during your stay. Three freshly prepared meals are served daily with plenty of fresh vegetables, fresh fish, chicken, and local ground beef, a variety of local and western style meals, as well as vegetarian meals available upon request. Your days will be filled with daily activities such as surfing, snorkeling, tide pooling, trekking around the island and boat charters to other secret surf spots.
Surf camp adventure at Asu Camp is an Ocean front, 2 room bungalow that sleeps up to 7 people. Our privileged camp base has all the comfort that you need with single and double beds, individual fans, mosquito nets, bathrooms with hot water showers and electricity from 6pm-6am daily. WAVES & SURF SEASONS

SURFING ABILITY : Intermediate to advanced
Located remotely in the Hinako islands, Northern Sumatra is less crowded area than The Mentawais. Asu and Bawa are host to some classic waves and 4 other secret surf spots. During the surf season (April-October) this region consistently picks up more swell than the Mentawais, Telos or Banyaks. Probably one of the last remotely situated surfing frontiers in the world this location guarantees less crowded waves than the Mentawais with at most 15 people in the line up and sometimes none at all.
Asu – situated right in front of our camp is a 200m long hollow left with a perfect barrel and a steep, work-able face, breaking over a shallow reef.
Bawa -only a 25min. ride away by speedboat, is a powerful right hander, breaking in deep water, and almost never flat. Bawa picks up more swell than Asu and can hold waves of up to 15 feet! Bawa is offshore in West and North winds. Chances are if Asu is no good, then Bawa is sick and pumping !
Bombie– Just 15 min. ride away by speedboat, a 60m right hander, best with morning East winds
Hamutala– 25 min. ride by speedboat, a 50m right hander, best with North and West winds
Hinako Secrets – There are 4 secret spots that we can boat to when the weather and conditions are favorable.
